About Dubrovnik
SHORT STORY ABOUT DUBROVNIK CITY

Situated on the eastern part of Adriatic Coast, in the very middle of Mediterranean which once was the culture and trade center of the world gave this small town a great geographical advantage which together with its inhabitants wit and sense for trade and diplomacy made it one of the most powerful city states in Europe during the Middle ages.
Throughout the centuries, all the way from 7.ct when the Roman refugees from the nearby town of Epidaurum (burned by invading Slavic tribes) found they sanctuary on a small island Laus (thus the name Ragusa = Dubrovnik) and founded a new city state - Dubrovnik has been rapidly growing and evolving despite all the hurdles in the way (ocupations, wars, diseases) reaching its most prosperous years in 15. and 16. ct know as "the Golden Years" of Dubrovnik.
Being located on the very border between the two worlds, first between Christian world and Bysantium, and later between Christian world and Turkish Empire, it kept its neutrality in all the conflict which gave it an unique position of being able to trade in both worlds reaping huge profits.
Shipbuilding, salt production, money minting and trade of all sorts made the Dubrovnik economy flourish, and higly skilled diplomacy made it survive all the perils on the way making it a desirable place to live among not only noblemen but also among city folk, various craftmen, art people and even peasents enjoying the liberty and proseperity the Republic of Dubrovnik was offering.
Dubrovnik people were pratical people but also with the sense of aestetics resulting in the combination of useful and beutiful...from the town houses to sewage and water systems which ended in the beautiful fauntains. Rather then being looked upon as a serious of magnicant objects of historical, sacral and artistic value, the whole city has to be looked as a synergetical whole as an living and breathing miracle with its all beauties looking intact throughout the centuries even to this day.
We wish you, during your stay in Dubrovnik, to really feel this medieval spirit, to go back in time with the city and become part of the City. Once you start truly feel the spirit of Dubrovnik, you will wish never to leave it again !
